Antigua...just chill!

Hello all, not blogged for ages partly because I am now on the computer at work all day so have to really drag myself on it when I get back home.

Patrick and I went to Antigua in September, thanks to a very nice staff deal through work. We stayed at Cocobay which was very nice, rustic, but really nice. Again, I was amazed by all the little birds that fly around, the huge catapillars and the glorious flowers that are everywhere!

Most of the week we just chilled, really needed a relax, and it was so nice to get away after the New York trip went tits up (the plane never took off and we were on the runway for 6 hours is the short version of that story!)
The beach at Cocobay was nice and the sea really lovely, taking a dip in the warm water in the late afternoon with the sunlight glinting of the water was magic!
Weatherwise we hit it lucky as it was officially hurricane season, but we only had a few rainy times, one afternoon it did't stop but that gave us a good reason to prop up the bar for alittle longer!

One day we did a cruise around the island on Wadicats which was great, the food and drink were aplenty, we got to go snorkelling and really just catch some sunshine as we sailed through Nelson's harbour and past Eric Clapton's house! We were pretty red though  - that sun is fierce!

Oh well that is it really from Antigua I have added afew photos.

Next week I am off to Japan, so I am hoping the MSN spaces plays nicely and I can actually keep you informed whilst I am out there! As usual will probably have to add my photos when I return.

Peace Out.

Lovely St Lucia!

I am in St Lucia at the moment with my little sis Jenny. It is amazing here. We are staying at The Jalousie Plantation which is just so brilliant! Getting in some rest and relaxation and also lots of free cocktails! Will blog more when I get back, for now I am going to hit the tennis courts to work of my massive but delicious brekkie!

Bye for now.

Back from Malta!

Hello there! Hope everyone had  a nice christmas and new year. We had a really nice one, eating drinking and being merry!

At the end of November I took the plunge and went on a little trip on my own - to Malta! I really needed a break! It was been a tough slog trying to get to grips with my new job so I needed some rest and relaxation.

I flew with GB airways which was ok, and I stayed at St Jullians Le Meridien which was really really nice, and  a great deal as it was slightly out of season! Still it was quite warm and I got to use the spa, sample the Mediterrean cuisine and wine and of course do quite a bit of sight-seeing.

It is very easy to get around the island, as the have these amazing old Leyland and Bedford buses, which are very eye-catching and abit of a bone shaker but I
took a few buses around the island. To Mosta, to the silent city Mdina and the capital Valetta.

In Malta there is  very laid back attitude to life which is very infectious, and of course the churches and sandstone building are very beautiful.

I really enjoyed it. I recommend travelling on your own, it gives you time to think and also prove to yourself that you can do it!
Having said that it was nice to come home and see Patrick again!

Next stop St Lucia!

Lots of love from Katie XXXX

Maybe it's because I ain't a Londoner!

 Hi there everyone.

Katie here, back in Manchester for the weekend. It took ages to get back because of the floods and storms we are experiencing in the UK at the moment, I have never seen anything like it! Even parts of the tube were flooded. Bit worried about getting back now!

London has been going well and I have been trying to make the most of it and doing some sightseeing, and of course seeing some of my lovely friends who live in London.

These are some of the sights I've seen so far!:

British Library.
Open late on a Tuesday, but unfortunately I still didn't have very long to look round. Still an amazing collection of first additions, letters and correspondence from literary figures, diaries, sheets of music, memerobilla -  you name it. Really amazing and very moving. Could easily spend hours trawling through.

Science Museum.
Again, outstanding collection displayed in a thoughtful, provocative way. Great for kids too.

Hyde Park.
Wonderful wide open spaces with lots of activities going on, people chilling out, walking, cycling and blading around.

Holland Park.
Near where I am staying. Very relaxing and has a very English feel with people laying tennis and cricket. I have been there afew times now on my own with my own thoughts. I really like the Japanese Garden there very relaxing. Spot the huge carp and the peacocks.

Kensington Gardens.
Nice with lots of Diana fans wandering around outside Kensington House.

Photographers Gallery.
Very interesting, really enjoyed having  look around this small gallery. Thought provoking and funny exhibitions. Plus  a nice cuppa to be had there!

I have also been wandering around Trafalgar Sq and Westminister as you can see from my photos above.
These have all been taken with a camera phone that I am only just learning to use, so the results aren't too bad considering!
I have also been around Covent Gardens which are really nice - great for people watching amongst the hustle and bustle! And of course to the local pubs and the pictures to see the new Harry Potter film. Now I've got to read the new book to see how it ends!

Well I am out and about in the rain tonight. Bye for now.

Books, bands, and bandages...

Hi all,
on Saturday we went to visit the newly refurbished John Rylands Library in Manchester. It is such a wonderful building, built from the proceeds of Ryland's cotton fortune in 1888. It is very grand and gothic but not off putting and the new refurb is nicely done with a great new visitor centre whch doesn't detract from the actually library. For the first time though I got to see some of the amazing collection which is lovingly displayed, some of which is a real testament to Manchester's industrial, political, social, and scientific history. Well worth a look.

Here is a link:

Later that evening we went to see Devo at the Apollo, one of Patrick's favourite bands. They were really good, and it was a great atmosphere. Just before they came on though my leg gave way and all my knee has swollen up (once again!) so I wont be able to do some of the walks I have planned to do in the near future!

Swings and roundabouts eh?
